Getting Started

What is TD Waterhouse Global Trading?
TD Waterhouse Global Trading provides online access to the world’s stock markets. You can trade international stocks and hold up to 7 currencies online – all from one integrated platform.

What is required to access Global Trading?
To access Global Trading it is necessary to have a personal, single or joint TD Waterhouse Discount Brokerage cash or margin account with WebBroker access. Open an account today, or register for WebBroker. Please note that registered plans and non-personal accounts such as Corporate Accounts, Investment Club Accounts and Trust Accounts are not eligible for Global Trading access.

How do I access the service?
To request access, log into WebBroker and select the “Global Trading” tab on the left navigation bar. You will then be required to accept a service agreement and the various exchange agreements, and provide us with an email address. We will promptly review your request and advise when your request has been approved via email within 2 business days.

Markets & Currencies

What international markets and exchanges can I trade in?
Through Global Trading you can trade on 11 stock exchanges in 10 international markets including London, Sydney, Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Milan, Amsterdam, Singapore and Madrid.

What currencies can I trade in?
You can hold cash balances and settle trades in 7 currencies – British Pound, Euro, Australian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar, U.S. Dollar and Canadian Dollar.

How do I perform research on international stocks?
To help you make informed decisions, you can access market data, company news, technical and fundamental analysis, real-time quotes, analyst estimates, reports and charting for international securities. You can also set up price alerts for delivery via email to your mobile device. To access this service, select the “Markets & Research” tab in Global Trading.

How do I deposit or transfer funds?
To deposit or transfer funds for use in Global Trading, please contact a Global Trading Specialist at 1-866-802-3257. Please note that deposits and transfers for Global Trading are not available online at this time.

What are the commissions and fees?

How do I place an order?
Start by going to the “Trading” tab and selecting “Place an Order.” You can then choose the market you wish to trade in and follow a simple three-step process to place the trade. You must have sufficient funds in your account before you place the order. Trades can be settled in the currency of your choice.

Are Global Trading holdings marginable?
While you can access Global Trading with a TD Waterhouse Discount Brokerage margin account, we do not apply a loan value to the securities that you purchase through Global Trading. All trade orders placed through Global Trading must be paid for in full using your available cash balance. Please note that your cash balance and equity holdings in Global Trading are maintained separately from the cash balance and margin buying power available in your TD Waterhouse Discount Brokerage Canadian and U.S. margin account.

How do I access real-time foreign exchange?
A simple three-step process makes it easy for you to exchange currencies. Simply select the “Foreign Exchange” link in the “Trading” tab, and you can quickly and easily perform currency conversions.

Account Management

How can I monitor the status of my orders and view my portfolio?
To determine the status of your orders, go to the “Trading” tab and select “My Orders.” The “Accounts” tab is where you can manage your overall global investment portfolio. You can view your investment holdings in the currency of your choice, as well as the market value, book value and total gain/loss for your portfolio. Your transaction history for the past year is also available, and you can export account information to your favourite spreadsheet application.

Can I access my Global Trading statement and trade confirmations online?
With Global Trading you can enjoy the convenience of online access to your statement and trade confirmations by registering for eServices. When you set up your Global Trading access, you will be prompted to provide your email address to enroll in eServices.
